Often referred to as the "Top of the Bahamas", the Abacos are an elbow shaped chain of islands and cays that stretch from Walker's Cay in the North to the Southeast tip of Great Abaco in the South - a distance of more than 150 miles. The Abacos have long been renowned as the beautiful sailing and cruising grounds in the Bahamas due to their clear and sheltered waters. Diving in Abaco always ensures a never ending parade of marine life, including a vast array of corals, schooling and pelagic fishes. The coral structures are particularly undercut and fissured. This provides meandering trails, often filled with silver baitfish for divers to swim through. The extensive shoreline of the Abacos offers many shallow gardens with numerous patch and fringing reefs. Further offshore beyond the many islets is a lengthy barrier reef (the 4th largest in the world), with dramatic drop offs and walls. The area has an unusual abundance of Pillar Coral at many of the sites. We have recently added a great new shipwreck as an artificial reef. Some of the scuba and snorkel sites we visit:
