A Few of The Dive Sites We Know and Love

Scuba Diving in the Abacos

Often referred to as the "Top of the Bahamas", the Abacos are an elbow shaped chain of islands and cays that stretch from Walker's Cay in the North to the Southeast tip of Great Abaco in the South - a distance of more than 150 miles. The Abacos have long been renowned as the beautiful sailing and cruising grounds in the Bahamas due to their clear and sheltered waters.

Diving in Abaco always ensures a never ending parade of marine life, including a vast array of corals, schooling and pelagic fishes. The coral structures are particularly undercut and fissured. This provides meandering trails, often filled with silver baitfish for divers to swim through. The extensive shoreline of the Abacos offers many shallow gardens with numerous patch and fringing reefs. Further offshore beyond the many islets is a lengthy barrier reef (the 4th largest in the world), with dramatic drop offs and walls. The area has an unusual abundance of Pillar Coral at many of the sites.

We have recently added a great new shipwreck as an artificial reef.

Some of the scuba and snorkel sites we visit:

  • The Tower - with a huge coral pinnacle 60 feet tall, pierced with tunnels and caverns
  • Wayne's World - a dive along the outside of the barrier reef in 100 feet of water
  • Tarpon Reef - with high profile coral providing a home for large schools of Tarpon; Tutt's Reef - a serene coral reef structure that lets your mind and body wonder in amazement
  • The Wreck of the San - a large steamship that sank in the 1840's in 60 feet of water
  • The Catacombs - a photographer's dream, a sun-splattered cavern with an abundance of tropical fish and frequent turtles
  • Dexter's Garden - amazing Staghorn Coral in abundance
  • Treasure Cay Blue Hole - An inland hole where salt water and fresh water mix and form a layer of gossamer wings at 50'. It is also used as a specialty training site for deep (100-200'+) and technical dives. Huge stalactites in open water.

Some of the caves we visit:

  • Ralph's Chimney - through the chute and into the soup (clear broth).
  • Dan's Cave - Over a dozen beautiful rooms so far! (cave videos on request).
  • Reel Breaker - enter the cave from a twenty foot floor in the sea. Lobsters hangout amid the stalactites.
