When the rains fall on the Abacos

 Squall line

BACK TO CLIMATE and WEATHER PAGE

A noted travel sage once observed that you'll know you truly love a place if you can enjoy it when it rains.

This is especially true in our islands.

If you get caught in one of the islands' legendary 30 minute summer squalls, just sit back and enjoy it.

Enjoy it?

The wet season in the Abacos is one of the wonders of nature. Huge bruise-black clouds, all moisture and indifference, drift across from the Sea of Abaco like a flotilla of misshapen dirigibles. Their underbellies, smudged by rain, sag towards the ocean. If you are not obsessed with sun, sand and surf (or out on your boat when the squall line comes through), they are remarkably beautiful.
