Guana Beach Resort offers a variety of ways to scratch your fishing itch, from casual fishing from shore to Bone fishing to deep sea ("Bluewater") fishing.
- Shore Fishing can be done by using the "BAHAMIAN HAND LINE (pix on left)". Walk to one of the settlement's shops
where you can buy a spool of line and a package of hooks. Pick up some conch for bait, and the children won't have any trouble catching fish right off the boat docks.
- Bone Fishing is also popular all around Abaco, where many bone fish flats exist, and can be done from your own rental boat with or without a guide, or the resort can arrange for you to charter a boat with captain.
- Deep Sea Fishing can be done by renting a boat and going offshore for the big ones. You can also charter guide boats from "open fishermen" to sleek and fully equipped sportfish yachts. With the bountiful reef extending for the entire length of the Atlantic side of the island, there is an abundance of all types of fish.
If you bring your cleaned catch to the chef, he will prepare you a truly memorable meal. The "cook your catch" deal includes everything that comes with any meal order on the menu, and the price is about half of what you would pay if you didn't supply the fish.
If you choose to rent a boat to expand your Abaco vacation horizons, Guana and its surrounding cays offer
almost endless opportunities for safe and exciting exploration. Venturing out onto the usually calm Sea of Abaco (the Abacos' world famous protected cruising grounds and body of water which runs for more than 100 miles from Lubbers Cay north), Hope Town (Elbow Cay), Man-'O-War Cay, Marsh Harbour and one of the Abacos' two government-protected undersea parks are all within a half-hour of the resort's dock. Pack a picnic lunch and some snorkeling equipment (fins, mask and snorkel provided gratis by the resort), and you're likely to spend a day that you're NOT likely to forget.
Boat Rentals and Day Charters (sail or power)
A boat rental is a convenient, safe and fun vacation option. Guana's boat rental options are scarce, while several reputable (and conveniently located) rental fleet operators in Marsh Harbour can have you in your boat and running within 1-2 an hour ... even if you've never had Abaco boating experence. If you feel a boat rental is a vacation option you'd enjoy, we strongly suggest you make your boat rental arrangements at the same time you book your resort. Even though Marsh Harbour is the Bahamas' third largest settlement, the area's total rental fleet is less than 40 boats ... and they have a tendency to be reserved by Abaco travelers well in advance of their visits.
