Abaco Community TV
The Abaconian
- 15 August 2002
Cable subscribers
in Abaco now have a chance to "see themselves" like
never before with the availability of Cable Bahamas" Cable
12 Community Channel television channel. The service has been
available since July 10 although the official launch is planned
for mid-August.
Cable 12, The
Community Channel, provides a way for Bahamians to get their
video footage shown on cable television at no cost. Cable Bahamas
provides the service to support local community efforts. There
is no charge for airing local programs although the producers
are responsible for all production costs.
Cable 12 is available
to all cable subscribers on New Providence, Grand Bahama, Eleuthera
and Abaco which provides significant exposure for local programs
to the majority of the population in the Bahamas.
Cable Bahamas"
production crew creates about half of all the programs currently
shown on Cable 12. Programs include the popular man-on-the-street
My Five Cents and the personal interview show Portraits which
features prominent figures in Bahamian society.
The Cable 12
production team worked on Abaco for several days in July gathering
footage and preparing stories about the history, culture and
people of Abaco. Programs scheduled for airing during the official
launch will cover the wild horses of Abaco, the Johnston Foundry
at Little Harbour, pig farming and a look at the economic development
of Abaco. Future programs are planned to look at manufacturing
and social issues the affect the people of Abaco.
Cable 12 has
already began working with Abaco video producers to produce ongoing
local content on a frequent basis. Anyone interested in submitting
programs for Cable 12 should contact Alexia Coakley at 242-356-89??
