Batelco Promotes
DSL High Speed Internet Service
The Abaconian
- 15 August 2002
Batelco is aggressively
promoting its new DSL Broadband Technology named OneLine DSL
Turbocharged Internet Access. It was officially launched in Nassau
on July 29 and on Abaco on August 13. The DSL service gives high
speed digital service on regular phone lines without interrupting
phone service. OneLine DSL provides simultaneous Internet, voice
and fax capabilities over a single line and is a private connection
to the Internet.
DSL makes for
a safer, more secure environment with firewalls to prevent access
by hackers. It is necessary to have a Pentium 266 MHZ computer
processor with any of the Windows operating systems. Some of
the benefits of OneLine DSL service are the following:
- 1. OneLine DSL:
DSL technology allows the user to surf the net, talk on the telephone
and send a fax all at the same time on one existing telephone
line.
- 2. Speed: DSL
is the best solution for high speed access. DSL can ensure consistent
transmission rates for all kinds of applications.
- 3. Connectivity:
With DSL a user is always connected, does not have to wait to
check e-mail or browse the Web because there is not dialing and
no busy signals.
- 4. Ease of use:
DSL has proved to be easy to use Once the installation is complete,
the customer just clicks on their browser and they are connected.
- 5. Reliability:
the telephone network over which DSL operates is one of the most
reliable infrastructures in the world. It is very rare for phone
lines to go down.
- 6. Security:
DSL supplies a private point-to-point connection between the
user and the telephone company. No one shares the line or cable.
It is a very secure system.
Installation
can be done by a Batelnet service man or can be done by the customer
using an easy Self Installation Kit.
The DSL advantage
of being "always on" allows user to be connected to
the Internet 24 hours a day. It offers uninterrupted high-speed
access, faster downloads and has no hidden user charges.
Initially, DSL
service will be available on New Providence, Grand Bahama and
Abaco. Other islands will come on line in the future.
