Abaco with its two international airports is among five of the Family Islands whose airports are to be equipped with lights for night operations. The welcome news was delivered by Min. of Tourism, the Hon. C.A. Smith, at a conference held for small hotels in New Providence. Contracts are already out to this effect and the lights are anticipated to be installed by mid-October, 2000. The move will not only increase tourist business to the islands but also facilitate travel for residents of the Family Islands who often incur high expenses and inconvenience overnighting en route back home. For Abaco in particular it will be a great boon for international travel and for journeying to and from the capital. Min. Smith pointed out that these islands will "be available for short vacations and quick getaways." In short, the whole complexion of the airline tourist business will be improved. |
