The following comments and FAQs (Over 200 FAQs) have NOT been edited or revised in any way other than a broad spelling check and deletion of specific names. Additionally, as you will discover, the vast majority of these Abacos travelers (or "soon-to-be-travelers") began their travel planning process long in advance of their actual visit.

The nicest kind of folks seem to be visiting The Abacos
At Go - Abacos, we find the vast majority of folks seeking information on our islands are uncommonly friendly, polite, courteous and just plain fun. After you read several of the "information needed" e-notes from our Abacos-bound information-seekers, we believe you'll agree with us about the accuracy of the old axioms "like attracts like", "birds of a feather ...", etc., as they pertain to the type of travelers The Abacos continue to attract.

I have enjoyed your website a lot and now have it bookmarked. I thought I had seen just about all of the websites on Abaco, then found yours and it is the best of all.

My family (husband, 2 adult kids) and I will be arriving on March 8, staying until the 15th, and I have made a lot of the travel plans using the web. However, I do have a couple questions that I hope you can help me with:

1. We are flying into Marsh Harbour, staying at Treasure Cay (long story involving hard-to-get plane reservations). Anyway, is the only way to get from MH to TC by a $100 taxi ride? I guess I could rent a car for a week, but it doesn't seem like I'd really need a car for a whole week, I'd rather rent a boat.

2. My husband is thinking of bringing his bike, would he be able to get in some good training rides, or are the roads unsuitable for that kind of riding?

3. My daughter has a passport, but the rest of us had planned to use drivers' licenses and birth certificates as immigration documents. However, upon closer exam, my son's birth certificate does not have the raised stamp on it. Will this be a problem? I can call Maryland and see if they issue birth cert. with the stamp, but if I can't get one, what other document could I use? He's a college student, has a college ID, would that work?????

Hope you can help me out here, your assistance and time are much appreciated.

Hi Rick,

Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions so promptly, it was really a great help. I am now in possession of a shiny , stamped birth certificate for my son, so at least we will be allowed into the Bahamas! I still don't have ground transportation arranged, but I'm working on that. We are all looking forward to a week away from jobs, school, the rat race...It has been fun planning the trip using Web resources; thanks again!

Subject: Questions?

I am a school librarian in Illinois, I am interested in Elbow Cay lighthouse and its history, who built it, who designed it, and who ran it? This question has been asked to a student by a teacher who is a diver and visits the islands often.

Do you have any information on this lighthouse?

MW

Thanks

Found the article on your site, "Lighthouses" by Hannah Solo and Neil Aberle and that had a lot of information.

I enjoyed your site, the interactive map is a great feature too! Well done!!

Thanks

Subject: Abacos Vacation
X-URL: http: go-abacos.com

Greetings,

I am researching a vacation in the Abacos for my family (myself, my husband, and our two children ages 9 and 5) during the last two weeks in August, 1998. Though my questions are many, my first priority is to find a suitable property... and I hope that's where you can help me out. We want a beach front cottage house on a sandy, swimming beach. A boat (either included in the rental or by private arrangement), with docking privileges is also a requirement. Nightlife and or restaurants are not a priority...we're happy to do our own thing. Could you direct me to a realitor that has a nice selection of properties and-or a listing of people that rent their homes privately. Or, can you send me the information directly.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Sincerely, N.F.

Subject: Advice about the Out Islands

We are considering (primarily) two (Abacos) lodgings. The "
plushness" of accommodations is fairly important - we want a VERY nice place to stay. Can we fly into Treasure Cay? If not, how do we get there? My maps are not very good, so I have trouble putting places in perspective. Any help you can give will be greatly appreciated.

Subject: Marsh Harbour Questions

I am going to be staying at (facility name) in Marsh Harbour from February 21-28. I was wondering if you would be so kind as to answer a few questions for me. Are the food prices so outrageous on Abaco that I really need to bring some with me? We are staying in a Condo with a kitchen and plan to do alot of dining in. Will I be able to get everything I need in Marsh Harbour (meat, fish, eggs, bread, fresh vegetables)? Is there any place in Marsh Harbour that sells Cuban cigars, or do I need to bring some with me? After all, how can you have a nice relaxing vacation without a good cigar. One last question, who can hook us up with a good fishing guide for a day or two?

Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,

GN

We are going June 9th through the 15th. I would love to know what specific places you went, the best places to eat, etc. I am particularly interested in
beautiful beaches and native restaurants. Also, what NOT to do! My fax is xxx-xxx-xxxx if there is anything to fax me. Otherwise I will look for your E-mail. And thanks in advance!

Subject: Green Turtle Cay

My wife & I will be staying at (a Green Turtle rental) in a couple of weeks and we were wondering if you could give us any tips about the island such as restaurants,
secluded beaches for private sunbathing, boat rentals, or any other thoughts or recommendations. We have visited other out islands and enjoy the more remote and private islands.

Thanks for your help.

Endorsement:

Thanks for you very informative report on GTC - we just got back from there and it was easily the best trip we have had to the Islands - it was absolutely perfect for our taste - the quiet seclusion of (our rental accommodation) was ideal - probably saw a total of 5 other people on the beach the entire week - lots of sun - great snorkeling - an ideal getaway for us - the proximity to town was perfect, a comfortable walk into town for dinner and a relaxing walk home afterward - enjoyed the New Plymouth Inn for dinner (also would add the Blue Bee Bar to your list of places not to miss just for the experience).

Again - thanks for your feedback - TS
